Outraged

In my AA meeting today, a woman shared a tragedy in the making.

She received a phone call from her son, whose unit has been called up to go to Afghanistan.  Unfortunately, they've just found out that the $41 million that was supposed to be spent outfitting them has been revoked.

They have no tents

They have no guns

They have 4 night vision goggles for all of them to use while driving the Humvees.

All that they will have to defend themselves is the single pistol each of them was given upon entry into the service.

Her son is terrified, and told her that he doesn't think he'll make it back.  Some of the guys are talking about suicide, and he himself is considering being hit by a car so that he can't be sent over.

How is a mother supposed to cope with such horrifying news?  She has been talking with the NY Times, has left messages with the White House, and is also getting in touch with other media outlets.  She's doing all that she can to protect her son and the other men in his unit, but will it be enough?

Meanwhile, we give irresponsible, @#$%! corporations bailouts to the tune of $700 billion dollars.

I guess to those politicians who claim that you're unpatriotic if you aren't in favor of the war, "support our troops" is nothing more than self-righteous lip service.

It's the American way. It's not right, but it's how our country does things. Sad isn't it.

ACK! That's awful. I have no words.

This is truly awful, and completely normal for the American system. Tragic, wasteful, and idiotic, to say the least.

Come on, where have you been? Our CEO's on Wall Street need that tax cash more!

Really awful.

omg! that is terribly awful! last time i heard they did not approve of the 700B $ ? gee.. i bet any mother would do the same thing. and i hope your friend would stay with the AA.. she needs all the support she can get..

That's right, velvet. This was written the day before the bailout vote, when everyone expected it to pass without problem. The corporations are still going to be bailed out, but the amount and method is still be discussed. Those troops still haven't gotten their supplies, though.

I hope her son gets the materials that his troop needs. And I hope that she stays in the rooms and gets all the supports that she needs.

Wow...that makes me sick to my stomach. That's disturbing on so many levels.

that is the worst thing i've ever heard.

i wonder what will happen with the bail out now that it failed?

Okay as if I wasn't angry enough as is! I seriously hope McSame doesn't get into office, as this will just continue.

Unfortunately, this scenario is all too common. A guy I know who is in Iraq at the moment was looking forward to getting to Kuwait (a stopping point on the trip to Iraq) when they left the U.S., because allegedly the conditions in Kuwait are better for our troops than the bases we have here.

Hi Aravis. That's not unusual. Its notorious that US soldiers have the worst personal equipment in NATO.

Its too depressing for words.
