Fiction vs. Reality

In an attempt to forget that I have a test in Human Bio on Monday (and there's no "ugh" big enough for that), I let my mind wander.  I found myself thinking about the Twilight series, and the sweet, handsome, seductive vampire, Edward.

I wondered what I would do if I was seventeen and single again, and an Edward-like vampire professed his undying love for me, if he wanted to turn me so that we could be together forever.  Yes, I know that Edward didn't want to turn Bella, but go with me here.

Would I do it?  Would I choose to be frozen, just as I am, and spend an everlasting existence with my vampire?

It didn't take me long to say "No."

Because really, who would want to PMS for eternity?

BTW, that bit about Edward and Bella wasn't really a spoiler; it is obvious fairly quickly in the novel.

There's been lot's of discussion about this series over at the Smart Bitches website. I've never read it, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. I tend to like the idea of vampire books more than the reading of them (Octavia Butler's last book being a huge exception).

The series was geared towards young adults, but has found a widespread fan base amongst adults as well. No doubt due to its target audience, the romance is more sensual than sexual, more erotic than explicit. It allows readers to fill in the blanks rather than have every detail sketched out for them. I like how some things are left to the imagination. The emotional bond between Bella and Edward is intense, their need to be together undeniable. The fact that Edward is a vampire and Bella isn't creates a level of tension and conflict that appears insurmountable, and... well, I can't say anymore without turning into a spoiler.

Oh, and it has a lot of funny moments, too. *G*

If this sounds like something you'd like to read, go for it. But if this isn't how you like your vampire novels, then give it a pass.

I love this series, and can't wait for the movie(s).

I love the series! I was hooked into it via my daughter. Good luck on your bio test Monday. I'm quite sure that you will do wonderfully. Oh, I wouldn't want to live with a lifetime of PMS, either:)

LOL, great blog for a Monday morning!

So is this Twilight series the reason why vampires are so popular these days? It seems like I've been hearing many references to the vamps lately...For example, a grandmother and her 12-ish granddaughter bought $250 worth of rich, velvety fabrics on Saturday so this girl can be a vampire goddess for Halloween this year!

I don't think I've ever tried a Vampire read...perhaps I should give this series a go!

Good luck on your exam!

Never heard of the twlight series but you made a good choice.
