Proving that Taste in Music is Subjective

My MIL just got off the phone with her cousin.  It seems that Sandy is staying at one of the casinos and has an opportunity to see someone perform, but the tickets cost $100.  She has never heard of him, and called my MIL to find out if he was worth seeing. My MIL also had never heard of him, but gave her best answer.  Their conversation went something like this:

Sandy: So, who is Billy Joel anyway?

MIL: I don't know.  I think he's a Country Western singer.

I love my in-laws.

Hee. My parent's have seasons tickets to the Broadway Theatre League and this year "Movin' Out" was one of the shows. My father was quite positive he'd never heard Billy Joel's music before - too modern for his tastes.

Wow...just Wow!

Billy Joel can get $100 a ticket? I thought he was doing state fairs.

Oh no, he's huge. A couple of years ago he scheduled a concert in Hartford, and was supposed to appear 2 nights. Tickets sold out almost immediately and there was such a demand, he extended it to 4 nights and still could have sold more.

Good lord, I remember seeing him play The Bridge tour. I think he peaked in the 70s, personally, when he was into blues/jazz/rock. That's why you hear "Piano Man" on the radio every day, but not (thank God) "We Didn't Start the Fire"

good for him. i saw him at oprah. i like many of his songs.

best regards

A few months ago right after the American Idol finale I was on the subway into Philly. Some kids were talking and one of them mentioned how they had just heard this guy Billy Joel the other day and he was pretty good lol.

I absolutely love Billy Joel and finally got to see him a year or two back. He was (of course) fantastic.

In my office last week, one of my colleagues amusingly mistook Billy Ocean for Billy Joel (yes, I know. Some, er, basic differences, there...!)
